Bytes action reference
Discover the exact action and granted resource before executing. Read the effect description, including derived-data writes on listing/search.
- Get storage widget: Read the semantic v3 storage widget for the verified Bytes workspace. An empty accessible workspace still returns a valid widget.
- List files: List one page of files and directories in the verified workspace; eligible files can have derived thumbnails generated during listing.
- Read file content: Read bounded authenticated object bytes in the verified workspace and organization or private scope.
- Search files: Search permitted file metadata and indexed content. Search can generate derived thumbnails and backfill up to six missing semantic index entries.
- Prepare file upload: Prepare an authenticated PUT upload session for a positive-size file up to 104857600 bytes (100 MiB). The returned key may be renamed to avoid a collision.
- Rename file: Copy one existing file and its metadata to an unused key, move available thumbnails, delete the old object and schedule semantic reindexing.
- List sharing links: Read a page of sharing records visible in the selected workspace. Only accessible stored records appear; the response redacts stored passwords.
- Create sharing link: Create a view or download link for selected accessible file keys. View links require a configured session-signing secret; creation does not send the link to recipients.
- Organize files: Preview or perform per-file moves by type, date, size or custom rules. Without explicit fileKeys, the handler selects at most the first 1000 accessible objects.
- Refresh share access: Resolve one file under an active share. View permission returns a short-lived signed viewer URL; download permission returns the public download address.
- Revoke sharing link: Remove one sharing record that the caller may mutate. A missing record is refused; previously downloaded bytes remain outside this operation.
- Get latest desktop release: Read the newest published desktop installer metadata from the shared desktop/releases prefix; a missing release answers 404.
- Download desktop installer: Download one public object under desktop/releases. Raw HTTP returns attachment bytes; SDK, CLI and MCP transport return a base64 binary envelope.
- Start multipart upload: Initialize an R2 multipart upload in the selected storage scope and return the scoped key, uploadId and suggested partSize.
- Sign multipart parts: Create presigned PUT URLs for selected part numbers in an existing multipart session; accepted part numbers are integers from 1 to 10000.
- Complete multipart upload: Ask R2 to assemble the uploaded parts and ETags into the completed workspace object, then schedule upload notifications and quota checks.
- Abort multipart upload: Ask R2 to abandon an existing multipart upload using its scoped key and uploadId; completed objects are separate from unfinished parts.
- Delete files: Delete selected files and associated thumbnails, with per-file outcomes and scheduled semantic-vector cleanup. R2 deletion can succeed for an already absent object.
- Rename files in bulk: Apply a naming pattern to selected files and report individual collisions or missing files. Successful rows remain changed when another row fails.
- Create folder: Create a .keep marker under a normalized folder path in the verified storage scope. An existing folder answers 409.
- Rename folder: Copy and delete objects from one accessible folder prefix to another, retaining metadata. The handler does not rewrite stored sharing records or semantic index entries.
- Delete folder: Delete objects beneath one folder prefix. A nonempty folder requires force:true; action input wraps the HTTP query in a query object.
- Get folder information: Read counts, total size, file types and the latest file from one R2 listing with folder delimiters. An empty folder returns latestFile:null.
- Move files: Copy selected files into a target folder and delete their original objects, reporting outcomes separately. Stored sharing records are not rewritten.
- Replace text file content: Replace an existing file with the supplied text content while retaining existing object metadata, then schedule thumbnail and semantic reindexing. This is not a metadata-only update.
- Replace text content through alias: Replace an existing file’s text through the file-content route. It invokes the same content-overwrite handler as files.update, with identical storage and authorization semantics.
- Create download URL: Create a time-limited signed download address for an accessible existing file. No file bytes are downloaded by this request.
- Mark video range incompatibility: Record a 30-day range-incompatibility flag for the selected video key. The helper logs storage failures and can still return an acknowledgement.
- Archive empty storage workspace: Check that the selected Bytes workspace is empty, then ask Auth to archive it. The path workspaceId must match the verified workspace resource.
- Export workspace inventory: Export every paginated object’s metadata and redacted sharing records for one verified workspace. This is an inventory, not a backup of file content.
- Erase workspace storage data: Permanently delete the verified workspace’s files, associated semantic vectors and sharing records across all storage pages. Platform archival remains separate.
Evidence
Actual exported Worker handlers with local Miniflare R2/KV. Auth, workspace grants, R2 multipart, notification, usage and semantic integrations are simulated at their configured test boundaries. Synthetic ids, timestamps and signed URLs confer no live access. No deployed provider outcome, external delivery or live grant is established. Upload-session credential values are explicitly redacted; binary responses use the tested SDK transport envelope.
Documentation history
2026-10-18: Added the published Read file content guide and updated this reference index to 31 linked actions. This is a documentation index update; no Bytes service behavior or new fixture execution is claimed.
